In our first wellness discussion, we approached Johan Julian Lee, Instructor at Kinabalu Fighters for some tips and tricks for learning Muay Thai martial arts.
Johan recommended to join any Tuesday and Thursday class. For ladies who are looking for an all ladies class, you can join Tuesday and Thursday class at 7.30pm-8.30pm. For those who don't mind mixing with the rest, you can join the 8.30pm-9.30pm class on Tuesday and Thursday. If you want to go for more advance class, then Tuesday & Thursday class at 6.30pm, or you can come to the sparring session on Wednesday and Friday at 7.30pm.
Muay Thai martial arts emphasis much on your hips, hence the core is very important. For home-based workout, they recommend to do shuttle box exercise. (sit ups, punches, planks, leg raise)
Johan's class is available for walk-ins and the best great thing is they do not have any registration fee. But you need to own a hand wraps and a glove. The gym sells hand wraps and glove at a price of RM50 and RM120 consecutively. This is mandatory for wrist and knuckle protection. Kinabalu Fighters provide one free trial class for a newcomer.
